St Georges’ Church, Langton Matravers

Langton is the largest village in the Purbeck Hills with a population of 850 approx. The Victorian church, dedicated to St George, is the third church on the site.

The congregation varies due to the influx of visitors throughout the year.
Alongside our regular services we hold a ‘Communion’ or ‘Prayer in the Morning’ service alternating at 10am every Wednesday. On the first Thursday of every month at 10am we hold a coffee morning, ‘Coffee Pot’, which is very well attended.
Our féte is held in August to raise money for the upkeep of the church building, and a Christmas Tree Festival normally takes place on the first weekend of Advent to raise money for local charities.
St. George’s has a friendly, committed congregation, with a good number of people willing to take on a variety of tasks, that bring life to the Church. The building is mostly in a good state of repair.
Congregations range between 30 to 50 each Sunday. We place a high priority on music. We have a strong SATB choir who sing at the Holy Communion services on the 2nd and 4th Sundays in the month and at other special occasions. We also have a fine pipe organ.
There is a lively House Group, which meets every Wednesday evening each week and from this we have been able to lead worship on the third Sunday every month. Morning Prayer is said at the Rectory at 8am every day except Monday and Sunday. One of the aims of our Church is to bring the community together and to provide a place for all.
