Built at the suggestion of Lord Eldon and it was ‘through his generosity’ that ‘the finest materials were used’; metal pipework, including a 16′ Open Diapason, are high-quality spotted metal throughout, except the Vox Humana (attributed to Cavaille-Coll) which is tin; organ dedicated 24/07/1880 played by Alfred Oldknow, firm’s voicer [Dorset County Chronicle for 29th July 1880];
